We recently had a troll on social media (gotta love trolls!) who went on a rampage talking about how difficult it was to implement marketing automation software. He said it takes “months and months” and “is more trouble than it’s worth.”

While his claims are relatively unfounded (at least when it comes to Net-Results…he could’ve been a Marketo user), we thought it was important to share with you how to implement marketing automation in the most efficient way possible.

Here are our tips on how to save time and implement marketing automation quickly.

1. Start small

Marketing automation is a robust software system — it can be tempting to try out all the new and exciting tools right away!

We respect the urgency, but when it comes to implementation, it’s best to start small and simple. Start with setting up easy, straightforward workflows and campaigns.

Stick to the basics and don’t get fancy with it — there will be plenty of time for that once your team is fully onboarded.

The Net-Results Knowledge Base is a great place to start for all new Net-Results customers! These easy-to-read articles will help you with all of the platform basics.

2. Don’t be afraid to ask for help

The technical setup and data migration required when using marketing automation software can be overwhelming. It’s easy to think that plenty could go wrong, but don’t stress!

Depending on your previous software as well as the CRM you’re likely to integrate along with marketing automation, the data migration and technical setup can get a bit hairy.

Before doing anything drastic or making more work for yourself, reach out to our fantastic Customer Success team! They can and will help you every step of the way, should you need it.

In order to implement your new marketing automation platform as swiftly and efficiently as possible, it’s crucial to ask for help early and often. There’s no shame in that!

3. Put an emphasis on organization

It’s important to organize as early as possible when setting up a new software system.

Have an organizational process in mind before you even begin implementing marketing automation, especially when it comes to naming.

Think about the following:

  • How to name campaigns, folders, lists, forms, and more
  • Which folders you want (this is a big one!) and what you want to name them
  • How to name assets for your Asset Manager

Organization will look different for every organization (see what we did there?), but the fact remains the same: do not move forward in implementation if you don’t have an organizational process to go along with it.
