No, it won’t. Not in the way that many people seem to hope it will be.
Artificial intelligence is not even close to the level required to craft emotional appeals – to write copy and integrate it with design as part of an overarching strategy.
The art of human persuasion is a tough nut to crack. Doing it with an algorithm is not going to be easy.
Sure, you can automate coupons and email drip sequences. But you cannot automate “marketing” and should not hold out hope that such a revolution is coming within the span of your career.
I’m the founder and CEO of a marketing automation company (Net-Results – we compete with Marketo, Pardot, etc.). I’m also highly technical, having built the original version of our marketing automation platform (literally in my basement back in the day).
I live at the intersection of marketing and technology and so no realistic horizon where “marketing” itself is automated.
That said, we’ll keep adding more goodness to make marketers’ lives easier every week 😉
